Generally, cheap mallets have felt bottoms to cover up the fact that they are hollow. Problem with the felt bottoms is that when the felt gets dirty, they begin to scratch your play surface over time. Each mallet weighs 4.5 ounces; over double what the Taiwan felt bottom ones weigh.
